Our mission is to provide educational services that lead to better jobs, better lives and better communities.

TRC Head Start provides early childhood education services to children six weeks to 5 years old from low-income families. We focus on language, literacy, social emotional development, cognitive skills and fine and gross motor development to help children get ready for kindergarten. We support and believe that parents are the first and most important teachers of their children. We work hand in hand with parents supporting them as they support their children. Our goal is that when a child leaves our preschool program and enters kindergarten she is ready to succeed along with all of the children in her class.

I was all over the place-- no organizational skills, heartbroken over the way life was going, using drugs, mentally absent and dealing with a sick child. This is how Ebony describes herself before Head Start. Ebony and her daughter Mia were living in transitional housing. Ebony had no car, no money, no mothering skills and a daughter with few self-help skills. Ebony’s caseworker at the housing program recommended TRC Head Start for Mia. When Mia enrolled in Head Start, their journey began.
Ebony says everyone at Head Start met her where she was in her life and didn’t judge her. Because of Mia’s brain trauma, mom and doctors thought Mia would learn slower than other children. With the help of her Head Start teachers and an individualized approach, Mia began learning just like the other children.
Ebony learned she could ask for help, and there were experts at Head Start to support her. Ebony returned to college. She has made new friends and has a bright future.

Volunteers make TRC Head Start work. We truly cannot exist without our volunteers who provide in-kind match that is a requirement of our funding. We welcome volunteers into the classroom to read, share an activity or just to have fun and play. We can put talents of all kinds into action - gardening and landscaping, painting, medical, computer, art, storytelling, cooking, group facilitation, mentoring, finance, nutrition, exercise, sports, and on and on. If you are looking for a place to have fun, share a smile and make a difference, call us today at 765-288-3000 in Muncie and 765-649-9905 in Anderson.

Funding Needs
At TRC Head Start Centers we have large and small funding needs. We always need funds to for items in our classrooms such as books, manipulatives, blocks, puzzles, art supplies, tables, chairs, and more. We love to play outside, and funds for upgrading playground equipment is always in need. At one of our centers in Anderson, we need playground equipment for our preschoolers. We prepare healthy and nutritional meals at our centers, and we currently have a funding need for a walk-in refrigerator and freezer in our kitchen in Muncie.
All funding is used to support the education and success of the 410 preschoolers and 218 infants and toddlers we serve in Anderson and Muncie, Indiana.
